3 Reasons Why Summer Could Stall Your Recruitment Process

Summer can have a significant impact on recruitment, retention and short notice absence. This should be factored into any successful recruitment plan. We often see winter as the month that causes most of the waves in absence management, new starters, and leavers, but we should never underestimate the effect that the summer months can also have.

If you do have a vacancy within your care management team, now is the best time to start interviewing. A slick interview process over the next 2 weeks could allow for your successful candidate to start in their new role in early September. Failure to do this could result in that star candidate not beginning work at your organisation until October!

Below are 3 reasons why this is the case:

1.) June to September sees a significant increase holidays and summer breaks.

2.) A recent study (http://www.openworkspacedesign.co.uk/2015/12/11/the-impact-of-temperature-on-office-health-and-productivity/) revealed that productivity levels decrease during the summer but also more employees are off work through illness due to heat related stress.

3.) Key decision makers will be away from the business so new candidate hires will be slow.

It is therefore vital that if you have a vacancy that you begin your recruitment process now. This is important for 3 reasons:

1)    Beat your Competitors –  When August strikes, literally hundreds of Social Care organisations across the UK pick up the phone to talk to us about the top talent that might now be available. If you want to secure the best talent you need to be one step ahead.

2)    Care Management Moves –  ‘The Salary Survey 2017’ already suggests that over 79% of the social care workforce who completed the survey are actively looking for a new opportunity or are open to opportunities if the right role was presented to them. We are now actively working with the majority of the senior level people. Click here to download the Salary Survey 2017.

3)    Summer Get Togethers – A great opportunity to informally introduce your new manager to their new team. Now when the days are longer and the weather is nicer, take advantage of the summer social calendar and get your newest team member intergrated easier and excited for their new role. Meeting for a drink and/or food one evening would be perfect.
